Understanding the IEP for Parents of Preschool Children

 

October 22nd, 10:00 - 11:30 am EDT

 

This workshop will provide families/parents and caregivers an overview of the process for developing an Individual Education Program (IEP) using a collaborative approach. The training provides a review of the areas of the IEP and the information that a parent, family and/or caregiver can share with the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) regarding their child’s performance and disability related needs.

Some parents may have been asked by their school district to attend a training to become a “Parent Member” of the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) or Committee on Special Education (CSE), but they aren’t really sure what that means, what’s involved or why it may be beneficial to them.

CPSE to CSE Bilingual Training

Entrenamiento bilingüe de la transición a Kindergarten

This workshop will support parents for preparing for the transition from preschool special education to Kindergarten. Participants will learn how to be active members of the transition and understand the purpose of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Agency 101 – Connecting Individuals with Disabilities to Adult Services

 

October 27th, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

 

This session will provide an overview on the primary adult agency providers that are available in NYS and the different types of services they provide to support individuals with disabilities. Participants will receive resources to aid in the promotion of self-determination skills throughout the transition planning process to help students achieve positive post-secondary outcomes for employment, continued learning and independent living. Join us to increase your knowledge of, and connection with, appropriate referral options and processes.

 
 
 

Parent Member Training

 

October 28th @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT

 

This virtual workshop will provide an overview and best practices approach to the CPSE/CSE process. Parents and Parent Members will learn to develop techniques and strategies to become effective members of the IEP team in their respective roles. Any parent or guardian whose child has or had an IEP in the last 5 years, will receive a certificate for submission to their school district to serve as a Parent Member at CPSE /CSE meetings.
