草榴社区Black History Club Wraps Up Successful Month of Activities
During the month of February, the 草榴社区Black History Club acknowledged and celebrated the contributions of those who came before us. The school building celebrated by the start of the month by celebrating Rep Your Heritage: Cultural Dress Day, celebrating our diverse community day. Throughout February, each building displayed a slideshow of notable contributions from persons of the African Diaspora. Those highlighted were notable individuals combined with those with not so familiar names.
Students also visited SUNY at Albany to attend a one man show entitled, Rhapsody In Black. This highlighted the life of actor Leland Gantt and how he traversed through various life obstacles and survived!
Lastly, we closed out the month with our annual assembly. This student-led event showcased talents of the students and invited guests. This year we were graced with: spoken word, dance, African drumming, and a special motivational speech by the Honorable Corey Ellis, President of the Common Council of Albany, NY. Everything was done in a fantastic way! Thank you to all - staff and students - who worked to make this month a success.
