Unlimited Horizons Studies Movement with Storm King Art Center
Unlimited Horizons K-5 collaborated with Storm King Art Center to study “movement” and what that might look like within the art and sculptures. Classes first had pre-visits with Storm King Art Center Educator, Ms. Kristen, to discuss and define movement with our scholars. Next, scholars took a field trip to Storm King Art Center and discovered how certain pieces moved with help from the wind, motors, or the use of weights. Scholars also observed when they moved their own bodies and changed perspective, their view of the art piece changed. Scholars then made their own movements to interpret the art. In our culminating project, Unlimited Horizons scholars created unique art pieces that incorporated movement using dowels, ribbons, string, and other materials. After the classes experimented with how their art moved with the use of fans, they brought the artwork outside to explore how wind moves it as well.
